Urgent works will see main road closed for a day

By Nub News Reporter 26th Jun 2025

FOLLOWING more than a week of disruption, traffic signalling and road closures affecting london Road in Stanford-le-Hope were cleared overnight.

The works, adjacent to the junctions with Rayleigh Road and Kingsman Road, were carried out by the Cadent gas network company and who have been active with emergency repairs on the site over a number of years.

However, in the autumn, a further, longer set of works is being considered, which will see a complete replacement of the main.

Today's (Thursday, 26 June) free-running on the road will be welcomed by local businesses that have been badly affected.

A cause for complaint was the lack of notice about the works, but they do have time to prepare for the next scheduled close in the area.

For one day only, London Road will be completely closed either side of the rail crossing.

This is to allow resurfacing work, which will be carried out by Thurrock Council because of the dangerous state of the road at a point where a lot of pedestrians cross or gather.

The order will come into force on Sunday, 6 July and work is scheduled to take place from 8am to 5pm.

The closure will mean bus service diversions. The recommended diversion for westbound vehicles is London Road, King Street, Southend Road, The Manorway Southend Road Link Westbound, The Manorway, Manorway Interchange, Stanford Road and for eastbound vehicles, London Road, Stanford Road northbound, Manorway Interchange, The Manorway, Off Slip to Dunstable Roundabout, Dunstable Roundabout, Southend Road southbound, High Street, The Green and Church Hill. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses at all times says the council.
