A DEDICATED band of Thurrock volunteers have reminded borough residents that they are still around – and though their efforts can't currently be publicly displayed, they want people to know that lots of projects are still in the pipeline and will bear fruit.

Thurrock Museum Volunteers have created a number of exhibitions in the gallery at the Thameside Complex in Grays, many of which have been focused on the First World war and the recent run of poignant anniversaries of that conflict.

Focus had begun to turn to World War Two and this week, which brings the 75th anniversary of VE Day would have undoubtedly brought about another fount of local connections and knowledge.

Because of coronavirus, the complex remains closed but the work of the volunteers goes on and already they are working on a series of 80th anniversary events connected with World War II.

One of the volunteers, Diane Lee, contacted Thurrock Nub news to say: "We are continuing with our World War II project, which actually commemorates 80th anniversaries, and conducting our research from our homes ready for when we can display our exhibitions in the Thameside again.

"As it is VE Day this week, we are reminding people that we are still around!

"We are adopting the 'bulldog' spirit and continuing our research. World War II exhibitions are still scheduled for the Gallery in the Thameside Complex later this year. When the building re-opens we will liaise with our colleagues who work at the Thameside to look at dates and options for exhibitions. Stay safe, 'We'll Meet Again'."
