RESIDENTS and motorists have been warned that there could be an outbreak of severe bad weather in the region between Wednesday and the weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, suggesting there may be 'severe conditions' and some places are likely to see thunderstorms late on Wednesday through to Friday with the potential for travel disruption and flooding.

The service says there is a chance homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail and strong winds. Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and some communities become cut off by flooded roads

The warning message adds that there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
