Weather causes cancellation of bin collections and tip closure

By Neil Speight 9th Feb 2021

THURROCK Council waste collections have again been suspended today as the council has deemed it too dangerous and impractical for crews to go out for a second day running.

A statement from the council says: "Due to the weather conditions, waste and recycling collections have been suspended on Tuesday, 9 February.

"We encourage residents to take their waste and recycling bins back in and we will provide further updates as soon as possible.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."

The Linford Household Waste and Recycle Centre on Buckingham Hill Road is also closed.

Some council workers have been out gritting roads and pavements across the borough.

Yesterday the council said: "Today's scheduled waste service has had to be suspended due dangerous conditions caused by snow and ice. Despite the work of our gritters overnight, there are hazardous conditions on side roads and paths are very unsafe at present.

"Waste staff have currently been redeployed to streets for snow clearing duties.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience that this will cause, and will provide an update on plans for collecting this waste as soon as possible."
