ONE of the directors of Thurrock's Parkrun, which is based at Orsett Heath, has welcomed news that its members could be donning their running shoes in June.

And junior members may even get to cross the starting line sooner.

As part of the latest roadmap to Covid-19 recovery the government has confirmed that both junior and 5k parkrun events will be allowed to restart sin the coming months.

The national [L https://blog.parkrun.com/uk/2021/02/26/restarting-parkrun-in-england/ [L+]parkrun network says: "In line with the latest guidance on the lifting of restrictions across England, and operating within our already approved COVID-19 framework, we currently expect that junior parkrun events across England will be able to return from Sunday, 11 April and all 5k parkrun events across England will return on Saturday, 5 June.

Peter Eates is a joint event director for Thurrock parkrun and told Thurrock Nub News: "I am delighted to hear the news of the potential return of parkrun on 5 June.

"I believe we are all in need of healthy outdoor exercise and for some, to volunteer and feel good about giving back.

"We have had many Facebook posts saying how happy our parkrunners and volunteers are at the news."
