What's On This Weekend: Karis event is the weekend highlight

Our weekly preview of 'What's On in Thurrock'picks out a selection of events hosted on our events guide.

The excitment is already mounting about one of the borough's annual showcase events for talent, entertainment and a good time for a great cause.

The Karis May Darling Family Variety day will be back on Saturday and promises to be another great day of fun as the East Thurrock community comes together.

And there will be something completely different happening offishore on Saturday.

The Thames Sailing Barge Match, the second oldest organised sailing race in the world, will start around 8.00am from Mucking No.3 Buoy, just outside the Nature Discovery Centre.

As there will be such a fantastic view from the centre, which to open from 7.30am so that you can enjoy your morning cuppa or some breakfast on our rooftop viewing area or from the panoramic windows in our cafe area whilst watching these historic vessels assemble and start their race along the estuary.

It may be a while until Remembrance month, but it's already in the hearts and minds of local supporters and an event on Sunday at the Wharf Pub will give people to opportunity to get into Poppy mode.

Also on Sunday, there's a table top sale at Purfleet's Heritage and Military Centre.
