Words of tribute for much-loved and respected nurse Beryl

By Nub News Reporter   5th Jan 2026

A DOCTOR has paid tribute to the work, character and commitment of a nurse who served the people of Aveley for four decades.

Following the death of Beryl Tonks, Dr Luis Leighton paid the following tribute: "We were so saddened to learn of the untimely passing of dear Beryl, a much-loved and greatly respected nurse of Aveley.

"Beryl was the utmost professional in every way and also a warm-hearted human being whom everyone could trust fully and her kindness touched many hearts.

"I was fortunate to work with Beryl for more than 30 years and I knew that if anything needed doing or acted upon, she was the go-to person, she would do it efficiently and with a smile; this was one aspect of her, that set her above the rest of us.

"Beryl was so much respected by patients and practice staff alike, as well as the members of the Aveley community, and her dedication to her patients and her nursing career will never be forgotten.

"I have shared my condolences with Terry and her family at this sad time but words cannot express the sense of loss and grief and she will be missed forever by all of us who had the privilege of knowing such a wonderful, committed family person who always enjoyed life to the full.

"It was an honour to share the greatest part of my working life with Beryl and to get to know her. The void that Beryl leaves in all of our lives, cannot be filled. Rest in peace wonderful Beryl. We shall remember you. With my deepest felt sympathies to her family at this grievous loss."

Many more tributes have been paid to Beryl and can be read on the Aveley Medical Centre Facebook page.
