Updated. Death of worker confirmed at Thurrock industrial site. Probe is launched

POLICE have confirmed that a worker has died as a result of an incident at a Thurrock industrial site in the west of Thurrock.

The incident is believed to have happened at the former West Thurrock power station site now occupied by Industrial Chemicals Ltd off Stoneness Road.

A police statement says: "We were called shortly after 12.30pm yesterday, Thursday 23 September, with reports of a man injured in Stoneness Road, Grays.

"Officers attended the scene alongside other emergency service colleagues.

"Sadly, we can now confirm a man has died.

We are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive."

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue Service says: "We were called to Stoneness Road, West Thurrock, yesterday at 12.38pm. Two crews from Grays and one from Corringham initially attended.

"Our Urban Search and Rescue team worked at the scene with staff at the site, the Ambulance Service and Essex Police until 7.12pm."
