YOUNG people who have come through the care system in Thurrock recently celebrated their journey into adulthood during a special event at Grangewaters Outdoor Education Centre. 

Young people aged 16 and over, were invited to the afternoon of support on Friday, 25 July, which brought together a range of council services and partner organisations offering guidance on housing, education, health, fitness, and careers. 

The event was designed to empower young people with knowledge about their local offer and to build stronger connections between services and those they support. 

Attendees had the opportunity to speak directly with professionals, learn about the support available to them, and enjoy food, refreshments, and activities while surrounded by Grangewaters beautiful outdoor setting. 

Young People could also attend workshops throughout the afternoon, which shared information and advice about budgeting money. 

Cllr Steve Liddiard, Deputy Mayor of Thurrock, attended the event and said: "It was a real pleasure to visit Grangewaters and see so many services and partner organisations come together to support Thurrock's care-experienced young people and care leavers. 

"Giving them the confidence to take their next steps into adulthood is one of the most important things we can do, and it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and care shown by everyone involved." 

Care Leaver Ambassador Carolina Henriques said: "This Aftercare Fair event supports our young people into adulthood, building their confidence, but it also highlights how many services are out there ready to support our young people on their journey.

"It was an amazing afternoon, and I loved how many young people came out to socialise, have fun, learn new skills, and pick up some essential information for taking their next steps. I'm so grateful to all of the services across Thurrock and the staff that helped make this event possible, as well as our young people who gave so much input while we were getting this together."
