NHS nurses Ken and Melvin, pictured at their new South Ockendon home, have been identified by St Modwen as typical of the people driving demand  for new apartment homes in the borough rather than family houses

WHILE negotiations are ongoing about the make-up of a proposed extension to a new homes development in South Ockendon, its builders have been highlighting demand for smaller apartments rather than family homes that they initially planned to build on the site.

Matters came to a head at a recent meeting of Thurrock Council's planning committee where a number of councillors wanted to reject an application to change the make-up of the latest development of the former Fords factory.

AN important link road through Thurrock is likely to remain closed for at least another day as gas engineers deal with what one of them described as 'a very bad leak'.

The leak was discovered yesterday (Wednesday, 3 February) when nearby premises and flats adjacent to the junction of Dock Road with Wood Street were temporarily evacuated because the gas was filtering into the buildings.

THURROCK Council may have to change its controversial borrowing strategies again a parliamentary watchdog responded to a move by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) which is concerned about the way councils are playing the money markets.

After being stung with a couple of investments that have soured, Thurrock Council has already downsized its borrowing to invest strategy which at one point saw it in debt by more than £1 billion pounds and courting national concern following a story broken by Thurrock Nub News in January 2020.
