Brown bin week in the east

TODAY (Monday 15 June) is the beginning of brown bin collection week in the east of the borough.

During the coronavirus pandemic Thurrock Council is collecting the brown garden and kitchen waste bins on a fortnightly basis, with collection crews working through wards from Monday to Friday.

PLANS have been submitted to Thurrock Council to turn a hotel into a number of residential dwellings.

A submission has been made to Thurrock Council's planning department to demolish part of the Old Clock Hotel on the High Street, Aveley, and rebuild it – turning the whole building into four apartments, with a residential chalet in the back.

Reunited: Marcel and Louise.

A THURROCK family have had an 'absolutely amazing' reunion with a lost cat they had almost given up for dead – but he turned up safe and well at a fishing lake 27 miles from his home!

The reunion of nine-year-old black and white cat Marcel and his owner Louise Claudine has been likened to a tear-jerking Hollywood movie after the pair were reunited due to an internet coincidence and the caring nature of a Shoeburyness angler.

RESIDENTS living adjacent to a country park where Travellers were encamped for almost two weeks have acknowledged the way they behaved while on the site.

While clearly stating they would prefer the Travellers were not there at all, the aftermath of the lengthy encampment on Beacon Field – part of the Thurrock Council-managed Langdon Hills County Park – has not proved as bad as they might have feared, or others have painted.
