Council to open more libraries

A FURTHER five libraries will open in Thurrock over the next two weeks, following the reopening of libraries in Grays, Belhus and Corringham in July.

From the week commencing Monday 21 September, libraries in Tilbury, East Tilbury and Chadwell will open, with Aveley and Blackshots due to reopen from the week beginning Monday, 28 September. All five libraries will operate under reduced hours, and measures will be in place to keep residents and staff safe in line with government guidelines.

POLICE have confirmed they are investigating a number of incidents of cars being vandalised in Stanford-le-Hope.

Residents have told of several instances of an air rifle being used to shoot out windows, including one attack on a lorry.

The A13 widening project and the Stanford rail station rebuild have both massively run over budget and suffered long delays – though the council has consistently played down the problems with both projects.

TODAY is Battle of Britain Day and a ceremony in Thurrock showed that those heroes who lost their lives in the conflict that played a huge part on the defeat of Germany will not be forgotten.

Covid-19 has put paid to many ceremonies of remembrance but in the Thurrock village of Bulphan a pilot who lost his life exactly 80 years ago today (Tuesday, 15 September) was remembered.

Over recent months residents in Stanford-le-Hope have been expressing concern about the blight of smoke and smell emanating from the Stanhope Industrial Park close to Stanford-le-Hope when fires were lit during the late evening and overnight.
