FOLLOWING a dramatic water main burst in South Ockendon yesterday (Saturday, 20 June) Essex & Suffolk Water has apologised for the problems caused.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Following the burst to a large water pipe in Stifford Road in South Ockendon yesterday which caused flooding to customers' properties and major structural damage to Stifford Road, up to 30 properties have been affected by internal flooding.

AS the clean-up commenced following yesterday's burst water main in South Ockendon, which led to some families having to leave their homes, the leader of Thurrock Council has pledged the authority's help.

Cllr Rob Gledhill says: "This is terrible news for residents affected and we are working with all of our partners to ensure resident safety and that those flooded out can return to their homes as soon as possible.

TWO men have been arrested after a man was threatened with a hammer during an incident in Grays this morning (Saturday, 20 June).

It happened shortly after 8am. Police were alerted after the victim was threatened as he rode his bike in Churchill Road, Grays. He was unhurt.
