Cllr Allen Mayes is calling on the planning committee to change its mind.

A MEMBER of Thurrock Council's Cabinet has slammed fellow councillors for their decision to back a housing scheme in his ward – and has called on them to change their minds when the planning application comes before them again next week.

As exclusively reported on Thurrock Nub News in March, councillors on the planning committee voted to go against their officers' advice and back the application for up to 161 new homes on Thurrock Marshes with access from Churchill Road in Little Thurrock.

CASH from central government will offset most of a near £10 million loss projected for Thurrock Council as it deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

Next week's Corporate Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee will hear a report from Corprorate Finance director Sean Clark which reveals the total cost of responding to Covid-19 will be around £9.7million by the end of July.

A THURROCK councillor has called on the authority to act quickly to move on a group of Travellers who have camped by the side of a busy borough road junction.

The Travellers, with three caravans and a number of vans and vehicles pulled up on land adjacent to the roundabout linking Wood View, River View and the B174 Chadwell bypass at Chadwell St Mary around 6pm this evening (Tuesday, 2 June).

TRAFFIC problems in the area of Lakeside shopping centre and retail park were exacerbated this afternoon by a broken down lorry which was in a dangerous condition.

Significant delays were being caused by a backlog of traffic queuing to get into the McDonalds drive-thru on the retail park and then the container lorry broke down right in the middle of the main exit road.
