A THURROCK man has spoken of the 'amazing' care and dedication of the staff at Basildon and Thurrock Hospital who helped him survive three weeks when he was 'knocking at death's door' because of coronavirus.

Barry 'Cass' Carrington, 70, of Southend Road, Grays, was taken ill more four weeks ago, suffering the early symptoms of the virus.

THURROCK Council has turned again to a controversial security firm in a bid to find an enforcement officer who can clamp down on breaches of social distance guidance in the borough.

The role, which is paid £11 an hour. It is described as a 'Flexible Community Support Officer' and the job advertisement by private security firm Kingdom Service Group - which also supplies Thurrock with officers to enforce anti-littering regulations - says: "This assignment will be helping the council, patrolling the streets, park and other areas around the borough making sure that people are social distancing."

THURROCK Council has issued a warning of residents, urging them to be wary of predatory criminals taking advantage of the coronavirus situation.

A statement from the authority says: "More reports are being made of fraudsters taking advantage of vulnerable people as a result of Covid-19.

PURFLEET-based arts organisation Kinetika has been very busy working to develop online projects in response to Covid-19 and the lockdown.

It has rescheduled Thurrock's annual T100 Walking Festival will happen later in the year but for now everyone can get creative by joining Kinetika's project for May; making mandalas which will feed into the design and ideas for the festival.

JUST one further person has been added to the recorded tally of coronavirus-related deaths in Thurrock in the past 24 hours, with the fatality happening in the Public Health England designated area of Purfleet, South Stifford and Lakeside.

The total number of deaths in Thurrock is now 51 and the number of recorded coronavirus infections has also risen by one, to 282.
