THURROCK Council has defended the size of salaries paid to its staff – and particularly that of chief executive Lyn Carpenter.

Following publication of a 'rich list' by the Taxpayers' Alliance campaign group scrutiny has been focused on local government salaries.

FIGURES released today (Thursday 16 April) have revealed that a vast majority of children across Thurrock will receive their first or second primary school choice for the September 2020 academic year.

The news has been welcomed by Cllr Andrew Jefferies, the Conservative administration's cabinet member for education and health, who said: "Once again we have delivered fantastic results for the thousands of children in Thurrock taking the big step into school education this September.

Former vicar of St Giles in Orsett and a former Queen's Chaplain, Rev Canon Glyn Jones died in Basildon Hospital where he was admitted suffering from coronavirus and underlying health conditions.
