Grays Athletic 3, Potton United 1

GRAYS Athletic came from a goal behind to overcome a sluggish start and become the second borough side to with through to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup this evening (Wednesday, 23 September).

The Blues entertained Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division underdogs Potton United at Parkside, in front of a healthy crowd of 271.

It was the visitors who started best and they took the lead from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute when David Etheridge converted and it wasn't until the last minute of the first half that Grays got on level terms through Ryan Melaugh.

In the second half Potton began to run out of steam and Grays took advantage, with Tony Stokes scoring from close range after a long throw on 54 minutes and sub Moroyin Imilabi made the tie safe on 81 minutes with a shot after another long throw was only half cleared to ensure Grays go into Friday's draw alongside their landlords Aveley, who beat Lowestoft 24 hours earlier.
