THURROCK Council staff are planning for the authority's annual Winter Shelter programme in the new year.

It will be taking place from 3 January to 27 March 2020 and aims to help those who are homeless in Thurrock. You can get involved by volunteering in a variety of roles for the shelter or by donating items to support them through the winter period.

AVELEY and Grays Athletic both enjoyed Bet Victor Isthmian Division One North wins today, but Tilbury's game at Brentwood against Glenn Tamplin's Romford was somewhat controversially called off.

Sgt Ben Forbes released this image of his officers engaging in town centre community policing in Thurrock.

THE ongoing concern by residents in the east of Thurrock about consistency of levels of policing has prompted a further response from the officer in charge of town centre policing teams in the borough.

Sgt Ben Forbes, who hosted a Facebook question and answer session with residents last week (click on 'additional info' link below) acknowledged that the force is aware of public perceptions but that it is doing a significant amount to try an alleviate problems.

FOLLOWING confirmation that bodies of the 39 Vietnamese nationals discovered in a refrigerated container in West Thurrock have been returned home, two senior figures in Essex have spoken about the 'appalling tragedy'.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Smith, lead for the investigation in to the deaths said: "On behalf of everyone at Essex Police I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the families of the victims as they are reunited with their loved ones following their tragic deaths in October. Our thoughts are with them.
