Port tribute to the fallen

ARMISTICE Day was marked at the Port of Tilbury today (11 November) when Forth Ports Chief Executive Officer Charles Hammond and Port of Tilbury Asset and Site Director Paul Dale laid wreaths at the war memorial inside the London International Cruise Terminal to remember and pay tribute to the fallen and those who served.

During the week crews of the Saga cruise ships laid up at the port have also been paying their own tribute.

Thurrock Gateway's great effort for Foodbank

STUDENTS and staff at the Gateway Academy have been working together with the local communities of Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary to support Thurrock Foodbank.

The operational manager of Thurrock Foodbank Peter Newall recently visited the school to collect a large amount of food that has been collected, saying: "This is a much appreciated donation" and that "it is especially needed in this current climate".

New building welcomed at Tilbury Pioneer

A NEW school building at a Tilbury school which opened today (Monday, 2 November) has been welcomed.

The doors opened today at the Pioneer Academy's new building. Pupils arrived back after half term to enter the corridors and classrooms of their state-of-the-art building, a far cry from the building they vacated - a single story wooden structure opened in 1936 with a life expectancy of 20 years: 83 years later it has served the community of Tilbury well but it's had its day.

TILBURY FC has announced new commercial partnership with three of the biggest names in Thurrock's business community - Port of Tilbury, EMR and the John F Hunt Group.

The club, known as 'The Dockers' has been rooted in the local community for more than 100 years and its local family owners say the new partnership with leading local businesses reaffirms the club's aim to bring the community together to take Tilbury forward.

Help forge a path to regeneration of Tilbury via Town Board's survey

RESIDENTS in Tilbury are being urged to contribute to the consultation about how to best spend money that has been made available to regenerate the town.

Around £25 million has already been allocated to the town from the government's Towns Fund pot to help improve infrastructure, drive economic growth, and increase job opportunities.

TILBURY will be seeking to extend their lead at the top of the Isthmian North table tomorrow (Tuesday, 26 October) when they travel to face Maldon & Tiptree.

The Dockers are three points clear, five points and four places above Maldon - who have only played four matches as opposed to Tilbury's six because of an impressive FA Cup run that has carried them to the first round proper.

Dockers bow out of Trophy

THERE were contrasting fortunes in penalty shoot-outs this afternoon (Saturday, 17 October) for two borough sides in the FA Trophy.

Aveley, who were injury hit at Hanwell Town from the Isthmian South Central Division and took the match to penalties after 90 minutes. George Sykes opened the scoring, tapping in after a defensive mix-up to put the Millers ahead after 65 minutes but Ogo Obi put Town level four minutes later when he capitalised on an under hit header from Steve Sheehan.

THE Attention to Logistics Programme which was set up by the Port of Tilbury and the Tilbury on the Thames Trust is for veterans and their families to access training opportunities to help build new careers through training and real job opportunities at the port and with its partners.

The Trust, in association with the Port of Tilbury Logistics Academy, The Royal British Legion, Walking with Wounded and the RFEA offers bursaries to ex-servicemen, women and their immediate families to help them back into work.
