A Hill too far for Grays

THERE was disappointment for Grays supporters on their first trip to Buckhurst Hill at Step Four on Tuesday (25 August) evening.

It was the hosts' first taste of football at Isthmian League North level. The Stags have been in competitive cup action in Augist, but their historic Step 4 opener at Roding Lane fell later than some other clubs' opening fixtures due to alignment issues.

However, the home supporters only had to wait seven minutes for something to cheer about, Max Gnandi taking the ball around visiting keeper Danny Sambridge and slotting home.

And he repeated the dose 11 minutes before half time and a goalless second stanza meant Grays slipped three places below their hosts, on goal difference, and now sit 15th.

The Blues have been drawn at home to Southern Premier Central side Leiston in the First qualifying Round of the FA Cup. The tie will take place on Saturday, 5 September at the EMR Stadium, Chadfields, Tilbury.

Grays' home League match against Witham has now been postponed and will be arranged for a later date

This weekend (Saturday, 29 August), Grays make the short trip along the Thames to take on Canvey Island in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round.
