TILBURY kicked off their competitive 2026/27 campaign with an FA Cup extra preliminary round victory against Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Wormley Rovers at Chadfields on Saturday (8 August), earning a preliminary round tie against Biggleswade town on Saturday, 22 August and picking up £1,125 prize money.

With a number of new recruits in their ranks Dockers came close to opening the scoring in the 20th minute when Ben Allen's corner was delivered deep to the back post. Joe Elliott was the target and the defender headed the ball back across goal where it took a deflection and bounced wide after striking the post.

It wouldn't take much longer before the hosts took the lead, as Tilbury worked the ball down the right-hand side where a cross was fizzed along the six-yard box. The ball was met by the arriving Allen, who bundled the ball over the line to put his side ahead.

Following the opener, the game quietened down until stoppage time in the second half when Tilbury were able to increase the lead. The opportunity was created by Bobby Rea, who did exceptionally well to skip past two challenges before clipping a cross to the back post for Allen to attack and double his tally.

There was still time for one last chance, when in the dying moments, Josh Taylor took the ball past two defenders before drilling a low strike towards the nearside bottom corner. However, the Wormley keeper made a very good save.

SQUAD: Lawlor, Nzengo (Fry), Bennett, Winn ©, Elliott, Reeve (Okafor), Nandi (Townsend), Toussaint, Chiabi (Brocklebank), Allen, Rea (Taylor). SUBS UNUSED: Wheatley, Dibouss.

Attendance: 138.

Dockers are back in action on Saturday, 15 August when they travel to Brightlingsea Regent for the first Isthmian North match of the season.
