Aveley 2, Dover Athletic 1

AVELEY have won in the Vanarama National League South for the first time in 10 games. Millers grabbed revenge at Parkside on Saturday (30 December), beating Dover Athletic two-one after losing two-one to Dover on Boxing Day.

Dover found the net after just 12 minutes through Nick Dembele, who played for Aveley last season. The ball was played through to Dembele who slotted it past Jonathan North, Jalen Jones slipped and made it easy for the forward to score.

It remained one-nil at the half, Aveley needed a drastic change in performance to have any change in the game.

Millers made it level after the break. Siju Odelusi was taken down in the penalty area, won and scored his spot kick in the 47th minute.

Aveley was rampant in the second half, a much-improved team.

At the death, it was Millers delight as Emmanuel Ogunrinde scored in the 96th minute from a free kick.

After the game, Aveley Boss Danny Scopes said, "It's a big relief for us as a football club, it's important that we never panicked."

Scoped went on to say, "We have to remember back to the start of the season, we weren't tipped to get a point off a lot of people and we've got 38 (points) at Christmas."

Millers next face Welling United in the Vanarama National League South at Park View Road next Saturday (6 January). Welling have not won a league game in their last six attempts and sit 22nd in the league.
