IT was a Bank Holiday Monday of mixed fortunes for the borough's three senior non-League clubs.

Aveley led the way with a 2-1 Isthmian Premier League victory in their Essex derby at Canvey Island.

The hosts took the lead after ten minutes through Chris Regis but Millers were on level terms through Jayden Robinson six minutes later.

The match looked to be heading for a draw but, two minutes into added time, Suly Zuhdu popped up with a winner for Brett Munyard's side when his deflection decieved the home keeper.

The manager delivered a post match verdict saying his side had not played well but had enough chances to win the game, ultimately doing so with virtually the last kick of the match.

He added: "A litle bit of luck went our way."

In the Isthmian North, Tilbury travelled to take on table-toppers Maldon & Tiptree and were beaten by two second-half goals in front of a crowd of more than 1,000.

Tevan Reece Allen opened the scoring just before the hour and Amine Hassine Saassi ensured the win with a second two minutes from time.

Tilbury's afternoon of disappointment was also compounded when striker Darren Phillips, who came on just after the first goal, was sent off on 81 minutes to add to his litany of career red cards.

At Chadfields, Grays and Withan Town battled out a dull, goalless draw with little entertainment for the crowd of 270.
