Burgess Hill Town 2, Aveley 5

AVELEY stretched their unbeaten run to 12 matches and leapfrogged their hosts into fifth place in the isthmian Premier on Saturday (20 December) in a match that was very eventful.

Millers went into half time four up but were reduced to ten menjust two minutes into the second half when Ryan Henshaw picked up a second caution.

That gave Hillians a glimpse of hope and they clawed two goals back before George Saunders put the point to bed for Millers late in the match.

Aveley were quickly ahead, Saunders striking home a free kick on twelve minutes, and it was soon two-nil, Ryan Charles adding the second.

On 18 minutes Charles struck again from distance to silence the home crowd and make it three-nil, and when Ollie Peters made it four just before the half hour from close range, Millers looked comfortably home and hosed inside a third of the match.

Henshaw's dismissal changed things and Burgess Hill quickly capitalised, Max Fiddes getting them finally onto the scoresheet.

Nine minutes from time it was two-four, Alex Brewer reducing the deficit yet further, but if that gave the home fans slight hope of a miracle it was soon removed, Saunders adding a fifth for the visitors four minutes later.

Millers are back in action on Saturday (27 December) when they are home and away – playing tenants Hashtag United at Parkside.
