AFTER Saturday's morale-boosting derby win against Bowers & Pitsea, Grays travelled to the Simarco Stadium for Tuesday evening's (3 March) Isthmian North clash with high hopes.

However, Witham - with their own weekend win at Mildenhall behind them - were in no mood to gift anything to the Blues in a hard-fought match.

The dealock was broken three minutes before half time when Jordan Elongo grabbed what proved to be the matchwinner.

Sixteen minutes from time Athletic were reduced to ten men when Sidney Walker was dismissed, and there was no way back.

The result leaves Grays looking over their shoulder as they are just three points above the drop zone.

Blues will hope to bounce back and put distance between them and the trailing pack when they go to mid-table Newmarket on Saturday.
