Borough sides get new campaign underway

AVELEY'S pre-season has got off to a hectic start, with three matches played on Friday and Saturday - and on Monday (7 July) they continue with a home clash with Fisher FC. Kick-off is 7.45pm and entry is free.
Things kicked off on Friday evening with a 3-0 win against Dagenham & Redbridge which prompted this response from manager Brett Munyard.
Saturday brought two matches in the Community Cup when Millers played Walthamstow at Barking, which ended 0-0, followed by a 3-1 defeat by Barking. Both matches featured a host of trialists.
Grays Athletic got their campaign underway with a 2-1 defeat against Rayleigh Town on Saturday, with the Blues field completely different sides in each half.
Darren Manning's side will next be in action on Tuesday, when they play Wingate and Finchley at the north London Club's training ground at the Pad. Barnet Lane, Barnet. Entry is free.
A Tilbury side featuring a number of young players got the Dockers campaign off to a winning start, with a 4-0 victory at Pitsea.
On Tuesday evening Dockers will be in action away to Athletic Newham.
East Thurrock Community FC got their preseason schedule underway with a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Hutton FC.
The two sides' reserves teams also played each other on what was a fundraising day for St Luke's Hospice in memory of Karen Brownlie.
Rocks are in action on Tuesday when they entertain Romford, kick-off 7pm.
