AVELEY'S departure from the National League could be mathematically confirmed today (Saturday, 29 March) but for Millers fans the weekend brings an opportunity to celebrate just what the club has achieved in recent years, when they play host to former Football League club Torquay at Parkside.

The visitors, likely to be backed by a big travelling support, are challenging for the Vanarama National League South title and promotion, while Millers sit at the bottom of the table.

Even a win would not save Aveley from confirmation of the drop back to the Isthmian Premier if 20th-placed Salisbury beat Tonbridge Angels, but it would nevertheless be a landmark success.

Last weekend Aveley confirmed the pending departure of manager Danny Scopes, but he will be in the dugout until the end of the season and has promised that his side will do everything they can to maintain 'the integrity of the league'.

While Millers face the drop, borough neighbours Tilbury still have hopes of claiming promotion via the Isthmian North play-offs.

It's a tough ask for the Dockers as they are sixth, one below the play-off zone, six points behind Brightlingsea Regent. Both have six matches left so nothing will be confirmed today but a win at Gorleston looks essential if Marc Harrison's side are to keep their promotion hopes realistic.

Back at Chadfields, Tilbury's tenants Grays Athletic will play host to Witham Town, who are not yet out of the promotion race in seventh, a point behind Dockers.

Grays have been on an excellent run of form with five successive wins.

While success on the picth will be important, it's not key to today's events at Chadfield where Grays are celoebrating their annual community day of fun, football and community spirit!

There will be a free gift for the first 150 kids and first 100 adults through the gates.

Free entry to all children aged 16 and under, college & university students, military personnel, and staff from the Police, Fire & Ambulance services! All mums eligible for half price entry when attending with their children to celebrate Mother's Day!

The day offers opportunities to meet the manager and players, face painting, kit colouring competition, kids football skills challenge, half-time cross bar challenge, an opportunity to take pens against Danny Sambridge at full-time! There will cake sale, music from DJ Josh, raffle to win a season ticket! Tombola, craft stalls and much more!

In the Essex and Suffolk Border League Premier Division East Thurrock Community FC embark on the first of three away matches, at Debham Old Boys, that will complete their inaugural season.
