Canvey Island 1, Tilbury 1

TILBURY were denied the scalp of Isthmian Premier hosts Canvey by a late goal but this was an encouraging final pre-season match for the Dockers.

They took the lead after just three minutes when one time Gull Sam Bantick capitalised on a mix up at the back to put the visitors ahead.

Tilbury gave as good as they got and went into the break ahead, though Canvey did go close when Ewan Sanchez unleashed a fierce strike that seared the fingertips of keeper Christan North before clattering the frame of the goal.

In the second half, a raft of changes saw momentum swing in Canvey's favour, and after Tilbury made a number of changes to the starting line-up, the Gulls eventually found the equaliser late in the game as a trialist curled home an effort.

It was an encouraging performance from Tilbury and will give them momentum going into Saturday's home FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round match against Essex Senior League Buckhurst Hill at the EMR Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

The winners will be at home to either Essex Senior League Stanway Rovers or Isthmian League North Maldon & Tiptree.
