Wingate & Finchley 0, Aveley 2

MILLERS secured second place in the Isthmian Premier and a home semi-final against neighbours Brentwood on Wednesday (29 April) with Saturday's (25 April) win at Wingate.

The victory came courtesy of second half goals from Matt Johnson and Fletcher Hubbard.

Aveley were quickly out of the blocks at the Maurice Rebak Stadium and almost took the lead after six minutes when Jesse Nwabueze did well to keep the ball in and he set up Hubbard whose shot struck a post.

Manager brett Munyard's post match verdict:-

The visitors were looking comfortable, controlling the ball well but didn't come close again until the 37th minute when. This time, it was Nwabueze who struck the woodwork and the sides went into the break on level terms – with news that runners-up spot rivals Billericay were one up at Welling.

That lead at Park View Road was quickly cancelled out at the start of the second half and thing got even better for Millers on 57 minutes when a cross was delivered and Johnson smashed the ball home.

And three minutes later the second Aveley goal came from Hubbard, who latched onto a through ball to calmly beat keeper  Charlie Grainger to put Aveley in a commanding position.

That proved to be the end of the scoring in north London and when news came through from south of the river that Billericay had drawn 2-2 the celebrations began in earnest.
