A MEMORABLE and emotional day is in prospect at Rookery Hill, Corringham, today (Saturday, 18 July) where East Thurrock Community FC will play for the first time since East Thurrock United folded several years ago.
A fan-owned club was reborn in the wake of Rocks' demise two seasons ago and has enjoyed two successful campaigns, earning a place in the Thurlow Nunn First Division South.
Home matches since the club was formed were played at the Wyldecrest Club on nearby Herd Lane, but now they will play matches at Rookery Hill, starting with today's friendly against Earls Colne.
Supporters have been working hard to get the ground ready and new refreshment facilities will be in place for the first league game against Basildon Town on Tuesday, 28 July but they won't be ready for today's friendly. Fans can take soft drinks/snacks (no alcohol allowed). Kick-off is 3pm.
Aveley will resume their Essex rivalry with Braintree Town at Parkside this afternoon, kick-off 3pm.
Town dropped into the National League South this season after finishing 23rd in the National League last season.
The last time the teams met at Parkside was in the National South when it ended all square thanks to a Matt Rush goal for Millers.
Grays Athletic will travel to the St Pauls Sports ground to take on Fisher FC when the Brian Lomax Cup will be at stake. Kick-off is 3pm.
Tilbury travel to Wadham Lodge where they will meet West Essex from the Essex Senior League. Kick-off is 1pm.
