Young people from care backgrounds across Essex came together to enjoy a football tournament.

A TEAM from Thurrock emerged successful from the first ever Eastern Region Football Tournament for care experienced young people (aged 14 to 25).

The tournament, held on Thursday, 7 August, was hailed a resounding success, bringing together a mix of boys and girls from across the eastern region.

The Thurrock team faced spirited competition from Suffolk, Cambridge, and Norfolk and proudly lifted the trophy after some fantastic matches.

The sun shone brightly over the day, adding to the fantastic atmosphere with 18 of Thurrock's young people taking part, supported by staff and carers. With picnic food, plenty of cheering, and smiles all around, it was a celebration of sport, teamwork, and connections.

A statement from Thurrock Council added: "Special thanks go to Rasmus Adamah, our Independent Reviewing Officer for children in care, who not only managed the Thurrock team but also played a key role in organising the tournament. His dedication and hard work helped make the day a memorable one.

"This event was made possible through the collaboration of participation teams across the Eastern Region as well as the support from colleagues in the After Care Teams, a true example of what can be achieved when we work together.

"Given its success, we're excited to make this an annual highlight for our young people for years to come."
