UPDATE: Tilbury match called off because of a waterlogged pitch after an inspection at 11.15pm. Aveley's game at Canvey Island was also called off.

It's another big day in the Isthmian League as three borough clubs take hopes of promotion and avoiding relegation down to the wire.

The weekend was good to Tilbury as they climbed out of the two automatic relegation places and into the play-off zone with a win at Witham and results all around them going their way.

A similar sequence of events today could see them with a realistic chance of avoiding the drop zone all together when they face Gorleston on the final day of the regular season on Saturday, 22 April.

With three matches left Tilbury play host to mid-table Brentford today (Monday, 10 April) in the chase to overhaul Witham who sit six points above them in the 'safety' of 18th position. Witham travel to league leaders Hashtag United today who need a win to all but mathematically seal the title.

The only side that can catch them are AFC Sudbury who are certain to give everything to maintain the chase - and they play host to Coggeshall - another of the sides battling at the bottom with Tilbury.

And a third side batting to beat the drop alongside Dockers are Great Wakering Rovers who may need a Herculean effort to get anything from play-off contenders Heybridge Swifts who have refound winning form recently after a minor slump.

So the door is definitely ajar for Tilbury to pull off the great escape.

Grays Athletic will have half an eye on that match at Heybridge as they bid to get back into the play-off zone with a win in today's home derby with East Thurrock United.

Grays nicked a win with a very late goal at Great Wakering on Saturday to keep their play-off hopes alove, while Rocks managed a two goal comeback to salvage a draw at home to New Salamis so both teams will go into the match in upbeat mood.

In the Isthmian Premier Aveley's hopes of the title were massively damaged by defeat at home to leaders Bishops Stortford on Saturday and things don't get much easier with a visit to third-placed Canvey Island today.

However, Danny Scopes' side love a challenge and have overturned the odds many times this season so they will make the short trip in optimistc mood that they could certainly secure their play-off place.
