Berkhamsted 4, Tilbury 0

DOCKERS' FA Trophy hopes were convincingly crushed at Berkhamsted on Saturday (21 September) as they delivered a tame performance.

There was a quiet opening to the  Second Qualifying Round tie with few chances, until the home side's Ross Oulton struck the woodwork with a 19th minute free kick.

Soon after Sam Bantick had a half chance, but, like much of what was to follow, it came to nothing.

Berkhamsted took the lead in 23 minutes when a ball wasn't properly cleared by Tilbury and captain Matthew Bateman ran through. His effort was well saved by Christian North but the ball fell to Luke Andrews who had the easy job of scoring in the empty net.

And a second home goal followed on 35 minutes when a fine cross picked out the late-arriving Jonathan Lacey to finish at the far post.

That was the score at half time, but it didn't take the Comrades long to extend it, scoing two minutes after the restart when Jonathan Lacey's strike dipped over North and in.

Any hope of a Tilbury revival ended just before the hour when a corner found Newton who poked the ball home from close range.
