Thurrock T-Birds 51, Battersea Ironsides 10

T-BIRDS recorded a third Championship South win of the season in fairly comfortable fashion at Oakfield on Sunday (17 November).

Sustained pressure from Thurrock eventually paid dividends with a try out wide from Amy Battel on nine minutes and in quick succession Abigail Jones powered over for two more in the 14th and 18th minutes.

All were out wide and Ella Barnes was having a tough afternoon with the boot, failing to get close to the posts, but after Ellie-Louise Lennin crossed in a more central position on 27 minutes she was finally able to slot home a conversion.

And her delight was doubled and tripled when she crossed for a try on 34 minutes - and kicked the extras!

T-Birds finished the half with another uncoverted try from Michal Williams to give them a 39-0 lead going into the dressing room.

Ironsides stayed out on the pitch and looked far from a browbeaten team, sharing lots of encouragement and they were rewarded in the early stages of a much more evenly contested second half with two tries.

T-Birds did score again through Williams, converted by Barnes, but it wasn't until 14 minutes from the end when replacement Phaedra Cocks crossed and took the score past the 50 mark.

T-Birds are back in action next Sunday with a trip to North Bristol
