FIELDING weakened side with a number of players making their first team debut or having only played a few games at the level T-Birds found themselves overwhelmed by high-flying Championship South side Saints who powered into a 19-0 half time lead at Oakfield on Sunday (2 February).

They did not let up after the break and it was only with a few minutes to go that Thurrock got on the scoresheet, with Lauren Poole crossing for a 78th minute consolation try against the league leaders.

However, the try did reflect the spirit and effort put in by the borough side, which was perhaps not reflected in the final scoreline.

T-Birds are next in action on Sunday, 16 February when they travel to Battersea Ironside.

The seconds will be in action next weekend (Sunday, 9 February) at Eton Manor in the NC 1 South East (North). It could be a pivotal clash as Manor are top, three points ahead of T-Buirds in second.
