THURROCK T-Birds Ladies begin their latest Championship South season this weekend with a trip to London Irish on Sunday (15 September).

Ahead of the match Director of Rugby Dean White has issued a pre-season message, saying: "After the incredible highs of last season, I was determined not to stand still and to try and push on once again.

"Over the summer we have seen some changes in both the playing squad and the coaching setup. We had some very experienced players retire from rugby and this left some huge shoes to fill, but I'm pleased to say that we have recruited very well over the summer, both in terms of players and coaches.

"We have added some experienced players and some very exciting younger players that are going to be the next T-birds stars.

"On the coaching front, we have again recruited well, with a new attack coach, defence coach and a team performance analyst coming on board, along with a new medical lead. All these additions to the setup have brought experience, ideas and a fresh look to our off-field setup, they have all hit the ground running and understand the expectations of this team.

"We are excited to see how good we can be and how quickly this new look team settle. We have a tough start of fixtures for both the first and second team, after the first four games, we will have a full understanding of where we are as a squad. The players have been working hard all summer and we have increased training to two days a week, hopefully this will pay off and also help the players understand each other.

"I would like to thank all the sponsors that have come on board this season, without you and the support of our club, we couldn't run the team at this standard.

"I hope to see you all soon down the club, as our support really does make a difference on match day!

T-Birds' first home match is on Sunday, 6 October against Sutton & Epsom and there will be  a sponsors lunch.

The seconds' scheduled home match against Wimbledon in NC1 SE on Sunday has been postponed until Sunday, 16 February.
