THURROCK RFC's journey in the Counties 1 Championship proved to be a short one when they were eliminated in Saturday's (2 May) quarter-final against Cheshunt at Oakfield.

Thurrock's points came from a penalty try after Was illegally stopped just short of the line when set to score and a try scored and converted by Jake Barrand, who also added a penalty.

Having secured promotion and the Counties One Essex title, the match was a chance for Thurrock to pit themselves against top sides at the level they will compete in next year – and the size of that task was illustrated by the margin of defeat.

However, the club drew positives from the match and are now set for a summer of strengthening the team, while continuing to develop the highly promising cohort of young players who have come through club ranks.
