Hammers' Mildenhall meeting is off - but is reset for 2026

HOPES that Thurrock Hammers speedway fans would see their colours in action this coming weekend have been dashed.
Asmatt Hammers were due to take to the recently re-opened West Row track of Mildenhall Fen Tigers in a challenge match on Saturday (6 October).
However, Mildenhall's maangement have postponed the match becaue it clashes with the final of the Speedway of Nations (an international tournament involving Great Britain, being staged in Poland) which is being televised live.
Mildenhall is run by a community interest company whose steering committee member Kieran Phillips commented: "After the great success of our re-opening meeting last weekend, we really don't want to risk the possibility of a lower sized crowd due to speedway supporters, quite understandably, staying home to watch what is for GB fans one of the biggest dates in the calendar.
"We intend to invite Thurrock Hammers, who we've informed of the cancellation of their proposed visit, along to race in a Challenge match early in 2026."
Thurrock said they fully understood and supported the decision, saying: "We totally appreciate the decision and we send our very best wishes to the Fen Tigers and our congratulations again on the return of speedway to West Row and look forward to visiting for a challenge match in 2026."
Thurrock did have something to celebrate recently when former rider Zach Wajtknecht became World Longtrack champion.
