ALLOTMENT TALK

free talk by Allotments expert Twiggs Way: "Plots and Politics, A History of the Allotment!" As part of our "On The Allotment" exhibition, garden historian and researcher Twigs Way will explore the story of the allotment and its importance throughout history.

The talk uses contemporary material to highlight the social history of the allotment and is entertaining and highly illustrated.

Focus: Promote the importance of allotments with the themes of:

  • Historical cultural significance
  • Biodiversity
  • Mitigating the climate crisis through CO2 reduction by tree planting and locally-sourced food.
  • Health and wellbeing (both mental and physical health)
  • Sense of community or, a place to 'get away from it all'
