SALUTE! is ostensibly the only WW2 80^th festival marking the end of WW2 with a diversity edge. It is a free festival organised by Purfleet Heritage and Military Centre. The Centre is a 1760s Grade 1 listed building and Britain's royal gunpowder magazine for 200 years.

This inaugural festival incorporates the rich and colourful Gurkha Festival and vintage vehicle display, including a Gurkha ambulance.

In partnership with Film Thurrock, there will be a large outdoor cinema, screening shorts featuring different communities specially produced for SALUTE! They will reflect the internationalism of peoples from the Empire that joined forces with the Allies. There will be shorts about the Gurkhas featuring the only Gurkha Memorial in Essex in the Centre grounds; the D-Day Chinese; Caribbeans Beyond Windrush and an evocative film of found WW2 images. The Dam Busters is the popular people's feature choice as there were extras in it that are related to the local community.

A grand finale of the biggest WW2 singalong songs in Thurrock brings the day to a close.

With support of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery in order to bring this project to more audiences across the UK.
