Occupational Health Technician
About the role
As an Occupational Health Technician at the Port of Tilbury, you will support the Occupational Health Advisor in delivering high-quality occupational health and wellbeing services. You will assist in carrying out health assessments, health surveillance, and health promotion activities to ensure the ongoing safety, health, and fitness of all employees, while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with health and safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-employment, routine, and statutory medical assessments in line with OH protocols.
- Carry out health surveillance activities including spirometry, audiometry, HAVS, skin checks, and baseline health measurements.
- Perform drug and alcohol testing and report results in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain accurate, confidential medical records and update electronic systems such as iTrent.
- Escalate any health concerns or fitness-to-work issues to the Occupational Health Advisor.
- Collate and report health surveillance statistics for regular review.
- Assist in planning and delivering health promotion initiatives and wellbeing campaigns.
- Support the coordination and administration of appointments and employee communications.
- Actively participate in Occupational Health, HR, and Health & Safety meetings as required.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a proactive and professional Occupational Health Technician with experience in occupational health or a similar environment. You should have strong communication and organisational skills, a good understanding of HSE legislation relating to health surveillance, and confidence in using IT systems. A flexible, team-oriented approach and commitment to confidentiality and safety are essential. A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport are required for this role.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in Occupational Health is essential
- Manage confidential data in line with UK GDPR
- Detailed knowledge of HSE legislation concerning health surveillance
- Proficient MS Office/IT skills
- Full right to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence, with own transport
