A LOCAL landmark public space could soon be blooming with colour.

The Riverside Community Big Local Group have been granted permission to clear some of the trees from the Falconwood area adjacent to Bridge Road.

In consultation with the council's tree planning officer the Big Local group, whose volunteers have already cleared lots of rubbish and fly-tipping from the site, have identified trees in poor condition, causing damage to property or causing excessive shading and they can new be felled.

The works will allow more space for remaining trees to develop.

Replacement trees will be planted in consultation with the tree planning Officer and local residents.

Ward councillor John Kent says: "Now we have planning permission we will let a contract to a tree surgeon to remove those trees.

"Once done we will have a another good clean up, try to level some of the front of the site and clear the ground weed.

"Then we'll plant thousands of wild flower seed bombs to get some summer colour.

"In the autumn we plan to plant spring flower bulbs and replacement trees."
