A BOY was injured in a collision in South Ockendon this morning (Thursday 24 September).

Police were alerted to the incident at 8am after the collision in Erriff Drive between the boy and a Ford Fiesta.

The boy was taken to hospital. A statement from the ambulance service says: "An ambulance attended Erriff Drive in South Ockendon just after 8am to treat a child who had been hit by a car. The child was transported to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries."

Roads around the area, which is close to Harris Ockendon Academy and Sixth Form and Beacon Hill School were closed and there was considerable traffic disruption through the morning, including the diversion of buses via Darenth Road.

A police statement says: "If anyone has dashcam footage or saw what happened, they are asked to call us on 101 quoting incident 174 of 24 September."
