RESIDENTS in Stanford-le-Hope have expressed amazement this morning after a team of contractors began digging up a speed bump close to the town's rail station that was only laid a few weeks ago.

Workers on the job they were moving the bump a few inches because it 'was out of line'.

Traffic safety calming on London Road in the town has been the butt of local humour - and derision - for some time, particularly when a section of the bumps were dug up just days after being placed, for a resurfacing project.

Thurrock Council, which is commissioning all this week a council said it wasn't possible to replace the bumps on the same day as the resurfacing and crews came back a couple of days later to reinstall the bumps. They 'forgot' to do repainting work though - and when they eventually returned to do that, ended up with yet another botched job.

A paradox of the extended work, which the council stressed was all part of a budgeted project and came at no extra cost to taxpayers, was evidenced last weekend when contractors completed a section of resurfacing, completing several hundreds of yards of work in Linford, putting back the bumps that were milled off and repainting all on the same day!
