DESPITE a few early morning hitches and some confusion by contractors as they put out signage, the 'one way loop' put in place by Thurrock Council to allow the safe reopening of the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Linford is now in place.

The roads around the tip were subject to new traffic flow regulations from 7am this morning – though it took a while to get them all up in the proper places and giving out the correct information.

Thurrock Nub news editor Neil Speight was on scene from around 6.40 and recorded the preparations and spoke to contractors. Early on many of the road signs were placed the wrong way, guiding drivers in the wrong direction – but in the end all was in place and by 7am a queue of traffic was building up waiting to get into the tip, which opened at 8am.

Some of the confusion was caused because signs had been prepared according to the council's directive on Friday that Buckingham Hill Road would be completely closed. However, over the weekend the council changed its plan after protests from local residents and councillors and it was decided to leave Buckingham Hill Road open. Not all that information appeared to have been communicated to the teams putting the signage out this morning.

Our video here shows the correct way to get round the loop. The tip can only be accessed from the Linford end of Buckingham Hill Road, which in turn is accessed by a 'one way' route via Butts Lane, Stanford-le-Hope and Walton Hall Road or Linford Road coming from Chadwell St Mary.

Buckingham Hill Road is open for traffic travelling northwards, past the tip, to access the a1013 (Stanford Road.)

Our video shows the loop route from Stanford, which does include some confusing signs on London Road, as Church Hill in the town is closed for emergency gas works and the signs for that diversion are adjacent to those placed this morning for the loop run.

The 7.5 ton weight limit on Butts Lane has been temporarily lifted for the duration of the diversion.
