Hassenbrook Academy closed for three days for Covid deep clean and William Edwards is closed until end of term for all but year seven

By Neil Speight 6th Dec 2020

TWO of the borough's secondary school have announced Coronavirus-related closures today. Stanford-le-Hope's Hassenbrook Academy is to close for three days to allow a Covid-19 deep clean and Williams Edwards School in Grays is shut for all but Year Seven for the rest of this term

Hassenbrook parents and carers were told today (Sunday, 6 December) that the school will not reopen until 8.30am on Thursday, 8 December).

The school says there have been a significant number of confirmed cases among staff and students who are having to self isolate. Students will be able to access lessons online.

Parents and carers at William Edwards were told the school had taken the 'incredibly difficult decision' to close down years eight, nine and 10 with immediate effect and move lessons online until the end of term.

Among the reasons given were that the school cannot fully open safely with the current unprecedented level of staff absence.

The school is to be deep-cleaned while students are absent.

Year 11 at William Edwards had already moved to online learning prior to today's announcement, meaning just Year Seven will be left in school.
