COUNCIL homes in the west of the borough are set for a major transformation after Thurrock Council confirmed work can start later this year on a refurbishment programme.

The work will take place on the housing blocks at Marine Court and River Court on the Garrison Estate, starting in September.

The work will be carried out for Thurrock Council by Wates Living Space and Oakray and will include:

• Replacement roofs to blocks

• All windows to be upgraded with new double-glazed units

• Replacement of all timber street and rear doors

• Brickwork repair

• External lighting repair and renewal

• Replacement of existing front and rear security doors and a new digital linked entry system.

The council adds: "It is also our intention to follow these works with a communal decorating programme so the blocks will have full refurbishment inside and outside."
