WORLD boxing champ Tyson Fury has joined many members of the local community who have issued 'get well messages' to a Tilbury man who was the victim of a savage attack in the town on Sunday, 2 January.

Craig North, known locally as 'Noggo', received multiple stab wounds in the attack and is fighting for his life in hospital. The borough community has rallied round his family with many messages of support and his plight has even reached the ears of boxing champ Fury, known as 'The Gypsy King'.

He sent his own message, encouraging Mr North to keep fighting.

A 19-year-old from Tilbury has been charged in connection with the assault.

Darnel Curtin, 19, of Chesterton Way has now been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. He is due to appear in Southend Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Thursday, 6 January.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident, or anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage of the area between 6pm and midnight on Sunday, to come forward if they have not already done so.

Detective Inspector Julie Gowen, who is leading the investigation, said: "There will continue to be a policing presence in the area in the coming days and I would urge anyone with any information on this incident to come forward and speak to us if you have not already done so.

"You can speak to officers as they patrol, you can report information to us or indeed anonymously to Crimestoppers.

"I understand incidents such as this will naturally concern the community, but we continue to believe there is no wider threat to the public."

Information can be submitted through a dedicated portal via this link. You can also call police on 101 citing incident 975 of January 2. Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously 0800 555 111.
