Quay workers praised by boss after head shave

By Neil Speight   1st May 2020

WORKERS at DP World London Gateway Port at Corringham have been praised by their boss for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic - and their efforts to support the NHS.

Port operations director Andrew Bowen says: " We are now a few weeks into the lockdown and the team at DP World London Gateway continues to work very hard in ensuring that foods, medicines and other products continue to be unloaded into the UK and onwards to the public.

"The great team we have here wanted to do more for other 'quay workers' such as the amazing team at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

"More than 40 of the team had their heads shaved raising money for them. To date we have raised over £7,000 with our target over £10,000."

Anyone wishing to support the fundraising effort can do so by making a donation via this link..

Meanwhile, just down the river Thames, workers at the Port of Tilbury have also been commended by their boss.

Charles Hammond, chief executive of Forth Ports said: "I am extremely proud and grateful to our hard-working teams across our ports.

"Our own 'quay' workers have adapted admirably to the necessary changes and restrictions in order for us ensure we work in a safe and protected environment.

"All of this enables us to handle the much-needed products for other front-line essential services, people and business across the UK."
