A BID to open a new takeaway in East Tilbury has prompted a wave of opposition from local residents - and the owner of a neighbouring food outlet who says the village already has enough places to buy food to take out!

Among those critical of the bid submitted by Mr Amandip Singh Gruvar for the convenience store at 87-89 Coronation Avenue in East Tilbury is local councillor Fraser Massey, who says: "We already have several takeaway shops in the area, a Chinese, Indian, fish and chips, two cafes, a burger/chicken shop and two pubs serving food, we don't need another in a very populated residential part of the area.

"I worry parking would be an issue along with litter, noise, smells and any anti social behaviour, we already see some ASB associated with a nearby takeaway."

The plan submitted to Thurrock Council's planning department is limited in detail but says the request is for "part change of use from convenience store to take away and single storey rear extension."

The plan has found little favour with Hasan Cavus, who runs George's Fish Bar at nearby Stanford House on Princess Margaret Road.

He says: "I would like to ask the council if we really need any more takeaways in East Tilbury?

"For a small village none of the existing business is busy, so another takeaway is going to come in then going to kill all of us. Please, please - we don't need any more takeaways."
