THURROCK Council bin crews were out and about from 6am this morning (Saturday, 27 June) as they attempted to catch up on a backlog of missed collections.

The council announced yesterday that many bins in the west of the borough had not been collected as scheduled, though it gave no reason.

A statement said: "Our crews have been working hard in the hot weather.

"Unfortunately some bins were not collected in Chafford Hundred, West Thurrock, Purfleet and South Ockendon.

"Please leave your bins out."
